Wheelchair course
What is it like to move around without using your legs? What everyday obstacals do you encounter in the Wheelchair course?
The challenge in the Wheelchair course is to move around in a way other than walking. It has a number of everyday obstacles which people who use a wheelchair often have to overcome. Sometimes you will need help from someone else when your knowledge and motor skills are not enough.
We call physical differences functional variations. Talking about and making visible different functional variations promotes diversity and tolerance, which in turn emphasises that everyone functions differently, both physically and mentally.
The fact that we are all different is something that links us together, irrespective of whether we have reduced, enhanced or average functional abilities. Words such as functional impairment or functional enhancement are often perceived as being evaluative and meaning deviations from what is desirable and normal. This can be avoided by saying that everyone has different forms of functional variations.
