The stethoscope

Listen to the noises of the body with the stethoscope. The body gurgles, bubbles and pounds in a never-ending cacophony. Listen to your heart – what is it saying?

With the help of a stethoscope, you can hear the different sounds your body makes. Place the flat, white membrane against your naked skin. Place the stethoscope on the left side of the chest under the nipple to hear the sound of your heart. What you can hear is the valves between the chambers in your heart opening and closing. If you put the stethoscope in the middle of your back, you can hear the sound of your lungs breathing. To listen to your stomach and bowel, place the stethoscope over your belly button.
