Impossible Figure by Reuterswärd II
What is art? Can anything be art? Reuterswärd created what we call “impossible figures” that make us question what we are seeing.
The experience of a two-dimensional image is given a depth in the perception of the viewer. The question of whether we can believe everything we see comes to the fore in Reuterswärd’s art, since the illusions he creates cannot exist as true three-dimensional objects: they are impossible figures. Questioning what we see is a common component of looking at art and understanding science.
