X-ray picture
Here you can see what different body parts look like in an X-ray picture. Can you find all the fractures?
An X-ray machine works like a camera. The difference between a regular camera and an X-ray is that the X-ray machine exposes the film to x-rays instead of visible light.
X-rays consist of electromagnetic waves that have higher energy levels than visible light. And so they can penetrate different materials. When X-rays pass through the body onto a film, your bones, fat, muscles and other tissues absorb different levels of the rays. This means you can take a picture of the inside of your body. The calcium in your skeleton is the best at absorbing X-rays which is why they are the lightest image on the X-ray.
