Pelvic Ligaments

When the muscles of the pelvis have been removed, as in this model, it’s easy to see the size of the opening at the bottom. Do you know the difference between a male and a female skeleton?

Women and men have different types of pelvis, but they all have the same task. The spine transfers weight from the back’s skeleton onto the legs and protect other parts of the body such as the bladder and parts of the intestine. The difference between a male and female pelvis is due to the fact that the female pelvis has been developed for childbirth. And so, the female pelvis is flatter and wider than the male pelvis.

The pelvis contains the sacrum and the two hip bones. The hip bone is made up of three parts known as the ilium, the ischium, and the pubis. The ilium has a large wing that protects the intestines. The area between the wings is known as the greater pelvis and the lower part of the pelvis in front of the sacrum is known as the lesser pelvis.

Here, you can learn more about the pelvic muscles!
