Hearing Test
Test your hearing with the audiometer! It measures a property known as the "hearing threshold", i.e. the lower limit that you can hear at a certain frequency.
How hearing works:
- Sound enters the ear canal. The sound waves travel along the canal and reach the eardrum.
- In the middle ear, the eardrum is disturbed and vibrates against three tiny bones, the hammer, anvil, and stirrup.
- Fluids in the inner ear vibrate. The vibrations move through the fluid in the spiral shaped inner ear – also known as the cochlea – making the small hairs of the cochlea move. The hairs absorb the vibrations and transform them into chemical signals for the hearing (auditory) nerve.
- The auditory nerves communicate with the brain. The auditory nerve then sends the information to the brain with electrical impulses, where they are interpreted as sound.
