Wild West Windvane

The windvane is an advanced variant of the ones that are usually seen in films of the Wild West. It is a wind-powered water pump that functions in almost the same way as a common farmyard pump. The average windspeed at the location of the windvane is 4 m/s, according to the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute, SMHI. The optimal windspeed for our windvane is 10-15 m/s. When the windspeed exceeds 15-20 m/s, the vane folds and the system is braked. The windvane is nearly silent.
