Water Sausages

The water streams here are emitted as small "pieces" that all land on the same place. They look like small sausages of water.

The distance that a jet of water travels depends on the speed of the water when it leaves the mouthpiece and the angle it makes with the ground. The flow of water to the Water Sausages has the same speed and pressure at all times. Another stream of water cuts off the water at regular intervals on its way out of the mouthpiece.

If you study the Water Sausages for a while, you can see that they occur in groups of 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 11 and 13 sausages. These numbers are the first seven primes. A prime number is one that cannot be evenly divided by any other number than 1 and itself.
