The Muscle Man

The word "muscle" is from a Latin word that means "little mouse". Few things say "strength" as loudly as muscles. But can you be strong in other ways, even if you don't have large muscles?

A muscle always covers at least one joint and works together with the muscle with the opposite function on the other side of the joint. If the muscle stretches the joint, it will bend just the right amount to stabilise. When the joint bends, the stretch follows.

The muscles work against gravitational pull. Astronauts in zero gravity must exercise against other types of resistance so they do not lose muscle mass.
