World Time

This map shows where it is daytime and where it is night at the exact moment you are looking at the map. The rotation of the Earth moves the boundary between day and night.

Light comes from the east, which means that people who live further to the east are on a clock that lies ahead of that on which those who live to the west are. When it’s 8 o’clock in Sweden, it’s already 9 o’clock in Finland. The tilt of the Earth’s axis relative to the sun means that the northern hemisphere receives more sunlight during one half of the year (the northern summer) and less during the other half (the northern winter).
