Fisherman’s Tales

You shouldn’t believe all the stories you hear about the one that got away, but can you believe what you see with your own eyes? We learn how to interpret images. Maybe it’s the same with the stories we hear?

If we hide the hand that is holding the fish, the picture changes. The fish is almost the same size as the boy! Or maybe the boy is much closer to us than we first thought.

Even as small children we learn that the appearance of our surroundings can change, depending on the angle and the distance of viewing. Since objects far away appear to be smaller than those that are close, we have transferred this to the way we create images, and use it to create depth in an image. Playing with the conventions can make us unsure about what we are seeing. Could this be a huge fish?
