Pavilion of Light

The Pavilion of Light is not only an experiment: it’s also a work of art. It demonstrates how what we see is influenced by such factors as the colour of the light and the colour of the object.

In this room, we experience how coloured surfaces change when illuminated with coloured light. The experiment shows how the interplay between coloured surfaces and coloured light can change our experience of space.

The Pavilion of Light has been developed in collaboration with Gösta Wessel, professor at Konstfack – the University College of Arts Crafts and Design in Stockholm. His artistic development and research centre around the interplay between colour and light, in association with the presentation of space. You are also wearing several differently coloured clothes – how do you change?

The dark room has ideal conditions to display and study how the nearly monochromatic light from the LED sources function in here. By using LED sources in the primary colours red, green and blue we can create three extremely different patterns. The walls, ceiling and floor have been painted in a pattern with red, green and blue, while yellow, magenta and cyan are created where these colours overlap.
