Heat Camera

Which part of your body is warmest? It’s easy to feel whether one part is warmer than another if the difference is more than a few degrees. The heat camera records different temperatures at a distance and has an accuracy of 1/10 of a degree! The screen has a colour scale that shows which colour corresponds to a certain temperature. Protruding parts, such as your nose, are colder, while the corners of your eyes have thinner skin, which makes them warmer.

The heat camera measures infrared radiation. The human eye cannot see this radiation, and the heat camera translates this information into different colours. This Swedish invention has many applications. Firefighters can use it to find people or hidden fires in thick smoke. Heat cameras are used in the construction industry to find poorly insulated locations in houses, and they are used at airports to detect people with fever.
