Goal 9 - Industry, innovation and infrastructure

An invention is a solution to a particular problem. One might say that we are all inventors, because we solve problems every day.

We are surrounded by inventions. Some are good, and some are bad. An innovation is an invention that is produced and disseminated to many people.

Many innovations have been invented in Sweden. The adjustable spanner, the zipper, the ventilator, the seat belt, the pipe wrench, Styrofoam and dynamite are just a few examples.

Are you ingenious and resourceful? You may have the solution to the problems of the future. Your innovations may be the ones that help the industry to produce things in a sustainable way. Perhaps you will be the one to figure out how to build roads or sewage systems in a new and exciting way.

The challenge – Jump high!

Invent a contraption that jumps when you press on it. How high can you get the contraption to jump?

It’s up to you to decide what the contraption should look like and what it is made of, but use as little as possible, and preferably recycled/ reused materials. The cardboard from a milk carton, pipe cleaners, aluminium foil, hard or soft plastic are all good materials. It may also be useful to have scissors and tape.

The first challenge will be to get the contraption to jump. If you want a bigger challenge, try to get contraption to jump up onto a book that is lying flat on the table or floor.
