Goal 17 - Partnerships for the goals

Making the future as bright as we want it to be will require lots of work and commitment. That’s why everyone’s help is needed! Everyone on our planet must contribute to the effort. No one can do everything, but everyone can do something. Everyone has a responsibility to do something. Together, we Planet protectors will build the future!

Being a Planet protector is nothing new. We have long worked together to do things that make the Earth a better place. Perhaps we just hadn’t realised that this makes us Planet protectors.

The challenge – Together, we are Planet protectors

If we look back at the way things were about fifty years ago, a lot of good things have happened. Ask a grown-up who is around fifty years old about how things were when she or he was a kid. Did they wear a seatbelt in the car? Did they use bicycle helmets? What games did they play at recess? What inventions didn’t exist yet? Do they think the world has become a better place?

A few things that have gotten much better since the year 2000:

  • Fewer impoverished people! The number of people living in extreme poverty has been cut in half.
  • More children in school! In 2000, about 8 out of 10 children attended school. Today, 9 out of 10 children attend school. Imagine what a huge difference that makes around the world!
  • Clean water! Many millions more people have gained access to clean water since the year 2000.
